Health and Human Service students and faculty are consistently engaged with their community through practical experiential learning opportunities and undergraduate research. Students are placed with health and social service agencies, daycares, hospitals, schools, dental offices, and care homes in central Vancouver Island throughout their education. In addition, our dental students provide service to members of the Nanaimo community through the on-campus clinic in Nanaimo. Our child and youth care students and faculty are improving the lives of young people and families in the Harewood community through the Centre for Community Outreach and Care. The Centre for Health Aging involves students in research and health based projects with the elderly in community. Our nursing students are involved in communities of practice in schools, community centres, and at VIU, where they do a radio program and offer advice through the health and wellness centre on campus.
